Dr. Mazzarella specializes in the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia, or BPH. He shares his expertise in the UroLift procedure and other BPH treatment options by training other physicians to provide similar surgical techniques.

Why Urology?

It was a lot of small decisions, to be honest. The first big decision in medical school is whether you want to be a surgeon or not. When I first walked into an operating room, I knew pretty quickly that I wanted surgery to be part of my career. So I had to choose the right specialty that allowed that to be the case for me. The biggest single reason I became a urologist is the personalities of the urologists. Which I think are generally laid back and fun. We still get to do good work and take care of patients. As I've been a urologist for years and gone through training, there's only been more reasons why I enjoy being a urologist. I would not choose another specialty if I could. I get to do a variety of tasks. I get to take care of patients in the office, I get to do procedures that help them quickly on an outpatient basis, and I also enjoy the challenges of some of the more significant surgeries as well.
